The Department of Cardiology at the Canberra Hospital is the sole tertiary centre for heart disease for the people of the ACT and the surrounding Southern NSW region. The Cardiology Unit provides a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with acute and chronic heart disease in both inpatient and outpatient setting. The range of conditions treated include: Ischaemic heart disease (including a 24hour primary angioplasty/Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) service for acute myocardial infarction; Valvular heart disease, Acute and chronic heart failure; Atrial and ventricular arrhythmia; Bacterial endocarditis; Cardiomyopathy; Hypertension; Pulmonary Hypertension; Cardiac Rehab and Heart Function. Cardiology Outpatient Department (OPD) is open Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am to 5.00pm. All OPD referrals must be faxed to the above fax number 02 5124 2293. The Cardiology does not accept referrals for paediatric cardiology conditions. All referrals for paediatric cardiology should be faxed to Sydney Children’s Hospital for Paediatric Cardiology Outreach Canberra-based clinics.
